FAMILY MINISTRIES THEME VERSE
Deuteronomy 6:4-7: "Hear O Israel: The Lord is our God, the Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up."
George Barna, a noted Christian research specialist, said in his book The Future of the American Family, "Let me tell you, the research shows that a vast majority of Americans believe that the church is not having a positive influence on the family. The statistics also point out that although most adults regard family as their most satisfying aspect of life, they also regard it as their most frustrating. Believe me, we have a family crisis in America today."
We here at Prior Lake Baptist Church desperately do not want that statement to be true of us. We want to be a church that positively influences all aspects of family relationships for God. The family is at the very heart of God's plan for society, and it also is at the very heart of our spiritual family. A church that neglects the family is in a dangerous position. We are committed to being a force that will encourage you and help you to build your family for God. We also don't believe that family life should be or has to be the most frustrating part of life either. We are going to provide a Biblical and practical base of teaching that will give our families hope in place of frustration.
We offer programs that are specifically designed to help our families:
PARENTING BIBLE STUDIES
This program for families is a Bible-based curriculum for teaching parenting skills. This program begins by expounding Biblical texts, which relate to parenting. As clear Biblical principles are derived from this teaching, they are than applied in very practical ways to every day parenting situations. This material will be presented regularly in both class and home Bible study settings.
PARENT'S NIGHTS OUT
This program for parents is a ministry of the youth group of PLBC. It is designed to give couples with children an opportunity to "get away" and "get alone" in order to spend some quality time alone together building their relationship. To aid this, we offer "Date Enhancers" to help stimulate meaningful communication between husband and wife. The youth and youth leaders provide free childcare at the church for all children 6th grade and under where they will enjoy an age-appropriate program. Check out the "Family Events Calendar" for the next scheduled Parent's Night Out or contact the church office. All are welcome!
FAMILY COUNSELING
It comes as no surprise to us that people often have struggles that are too big for them to handle alone. When people have individual problems, it naturally affects their relationships. Therefore, we are committed as a church to helping any person, couple, or family desirous of clear, Biblical counsel. This counsel is offered to families in a variety of ways:
- Pre-marital counseling-relational basics for pre-engaged and engaged couples.
- Marriage counseling-for those struggling with communication, finances, in-laws, sex, and any other area of relational struggles.
- Parenting counseling-for those wondering how to rear their children of any age.
- Personal life-issues counseling-for anyone seeking help with life and God.
Our pastoral staff is trained and qualified to provide the help God offers to you!
